Chickenpox Mimicking Monkeypox in Adult with Diabetes Mellitus and Acute Kidney Injury: Diagnosis and Management

Background: Chickenpox caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in diabetes mellitus patients might exhibit similar clinical features with monkeypox, monkeypox (MPXV). In May 2019, Singapore notified World Health Organization (WHO) of one laboratory-confirmed case monkeypox. Considering is located near Indonesia, awareness about possibility an outbreak Indonesia should be raised. Purpose: To report a chickenpox mimicking adult and acute kidney injury. Case: A 51-year-old male poorly controlled was suspected to have differential diagnosis His chief complaint multiple blisters on his body vomiting. There history feeding monkey. From dermatological status facial, trunk, extremities there were pleomorphic vesicles. Laboratory results showed elevated renal function. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) examination using VZV as primer revealed positive result range 810 bp. He treated intravenous acyclovir for 3 days oral 7 then discharged improvement skin lesions normal Discussion: can give severe manifestation PCR has significant role especially when could not established from physical examination. Acyclovir given therapy. Conclusion: Adult are important risk factors associated severity complication chickenpox. careful diagnostic approach management needed.
